Sculpture of ' Boy King ' Alfonso XIII who became King at birth after his father's death and ascended to the throne at 16 years of age, which this sculpture is thought to commemorate. Alfonso often represented himself as a Soldier King. The head and hands are hand-crafted from ivory.
The sculpture is signed by Sculptor D. Bom, who was most likely an understudy at the famed Fundicon Artistica Masrieva & Campins. This well-regarded foundry in Barcelona, Spain was known for producing high quality bronze pieces. Bom has dated the sculpture 1915.
The sculpture measures approx. 16" in length, 17" in height and 6" at its widest points. The base measures approx. 4 3/4" x 13" with a separate marble base measuring 5 1/8" x 13 7/8".
