Sylvester Stallone

In addition to holding the spotlight as an iconic actor, writer, and director, Stallone has maintained a similarly successful career as a visual artist on a global level. His works have been represented in premier galleries throughout Europe and museum shows (Hermitage in Russia, Nice in France) have drawn record crowds.

Painting has been a constant in Stallone’s life since early childhood. It has remained a key part of all his creative work, including being part of his process in film making. An example of this would be a portrait he painted in 1971 of a fighter. This would ultimately be the first draft of 1976’s Picture of the Year — Rocky.

Stallone has developed a highly individual style that comprises a bold use of paint and color, as well as symbolic tropes such as a recurring clock and cryptic text.

"I think I’m a much better painter than an actor. It’s much more personal and I’m allowed to just do what I want to do.”
