Leroy Gordon ‘ Gordo ’ Cooper Jr. was an Aerosmith engineer, test pilot, USAF pilot, and youngest of 7 Astronauts in Project Mercury.
Project Mercury was the first human space flight program of the US running from 1958–1963. Mercury Atlas 9, the last Mercury Mission, launched on May 15, 1963, with Cooper completing nearly 22 orbits in over 34 hours.
